Help Children in Thailand with the International Humanity Foundation
The International Humanity Foundation is looking for volunteers to serve at our orphanage in Chiang Rai, Thailand, and be friends and teachers to our children. By bringing together disadvantaged children of Thailand and volunteers from across the world, there is a learning opportunity for both. As both sides discover more about each other, their lives and their cultures and go on to teach their own friends what they learned in this exchange, we hope to create a world of greater understanding and compassion. Our Thailand centre works especially with the hill tribes, the indigenous people who live in the tumultuous borderlands between Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos and as far as China and Vietnam. The hill tribes in northern Thailand face many challenges, and it is part of our mission to arm our children with the skills, attitudes and knowledge that they will need to have equal opportunities in their future like other Thai citizens. The children at our centre are from the Lahu and Akha tribes. Help Children in Kenya with the International Humanity Foundation The International Humanity Foundation is looking for volunteers to serve at our orphanage and education centre in Nakuru, Kenya, and be friends and teachers to our children. By bringing together disadvantaged children of Kenya and volunteers from across the world, there is a learning opportunity for both. As both sides discover more about each other, their lives and their cultures and teach their others what they learned in this exchange, we hope to create a world of greater understanding and compassion. Our centre in Kenya also has a close relationship with the Pokot tribe in the eastern-central part of the nation and goes on regular famine feeds to support it. Help Children in Indonesia with the International Humanity Foundation The International Humanity Foundation is looking for volunteers to serve our centres in Jakarta, Bali, Aceh and Medan, Indonesia, and be friends and teachers to our children. By bringing together disadvantaged children of Indonesia and volunteers from across the world, there is a learning opportunity for both. As both sides discover more about each other, their lives and their cultures and teach their own friends about this, we hope to create a world of greater understanding and compassion. Unlike our other centers, the one is Bali is not an orphanage but only an education center. No children stay there, but many come for the classes held there. Work IHF needs people with all skills. No matter your experience, whether a student or retired professional, IHF needs you. At the centre, volunteers divide their time between playing with and teaching the children and working on international tasks. The centre host English, computer and math classes, and the children often seek tutoring for their homework, all tasks which volunteers take part in. All volunteers participate on one or more of our international task teams such as university relations, photography and child watch. To qualify to serve at a centre, volunteers must complete eight hours of work on one of the teams, and they continue to participate on the team once at the centre. In the rare case where you lack the ability to complete these hours but possess certain trade skills in agriculture, construction or others needed at one of our centres, you may be exempt from these pre-trip hours. If this is the case, be sure to immediately get in contact with the centre director to discuss your situation and possible alternative tasks. Positions Director Center IHF needs people with all skills. No matter your experience, whether a student or retired professional, IHF needs you. At the centre, volunteers divide their time between playing with and teaching the children and working on international tasks. The centre host English, computer and math classes, and the children often seek tutoring for their homework, all tasks which volunteers take part in. All directors lead on one or more of our international task teams such as university relations, photography and child watch. To qualify to work at a centre, volunteers must complete eight hours of work on one of the teams, and they continue to participate on the team once at the centre. It is important to note that IHF strictly requires its directors to work eight hours a day (four hours at the center and four hours online), six days a week. If this work is not completed, you will be dismissed from your position. As an entirely volunteer-run organization, IHF depends upon its members to contribute to the day-to-day operations, both locally and internationally. Without these daily hours, IHF would cease to function, so directors must be deliberate in their use of time. This is not a vacation. Directors are expected to work hard. Directors must commit to serve at least a year at the center. For the first three months, they are paid a living stipend of USD $120. At the end of this training period, the monthly stipend increases to USD $160. Directors are expected to work eight hours a day, six days a week, and have one long weekend every month. Additionally, directors are provided with a simple, private room, often furnished with only a bed, at the center and have the opportunity to eat all of their meals at the center with the children. Directors are responsible for paying for any special treats or outside meals they might wish to buy. Admittedly, this is little pay for demanding work, but IHF is only looking for those who genuinely want to help children and who seek no financial benefit for themselves. This low stipend also assures that the greatest amount of money goes toward the children, the most important part of IHF. Voluntourist Serving as a voluntourist is an amazing learning opportunity, both about the challenges of poverty and the workings of an international non-profit organization. Through one-on-one time with the children, you will learn intimately about the international issues of education, human rights, abuse and poverty. Depending on the center you serve at, you will also learn about local issues such as tribal rights, land ownership, citizen status and tribal conflicts. Work is tailored to the age of the voluntourists. Young children are encouraged to simply play with our children while teens and adults may be expected to teach classes and lead unique activities. IHF needs people with all skills. No matter your experience, whether a student or retired professional, IHF needs you. At the centre, volunteers divide their time between playing with and teaching the children and working on international projects. The centre host English, computer and math classes, and the children often seek tutoring for their homework, all tasks which volunteers take part in. You may also choose to participate in international work in the administration of IHF which will teach you how an international non-profit operates on a day-to-day basis. It is important to note that these are intensive experiences. Once at the center, IHF requires its voluntourists to work four hours a day at the center, six day a week. There is time to sightsee and tour the nation, but work is always the first priority. IHF depends on its volunteers to function and to love the children. If you are not prepared to devote this time to work, you should look elsewhere for your service experience. IHF is committed to offering a flexible, affordable service experience. There is no application fee, and the weekly fees for individual, couple and family voluntourists are all only USD $250 to cover the costs for their room and board, both very simple, at the center. Only married couples and immediate family will be allowed to room together due to strict cultural codes. Work Study Volunteer IHF needs people with all skills. No matter your experience, whether a student or retired professional, IHF needs you. At the centre, work-study volunteers divide their time between playing with and teaching the children and working on international projects . The centre host English, computer and math classes, and the children often seek tutoring for their homework, all tasks which work-study volunteers take part in. The IHF work study program is an intensive learning experience. It provides you with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with an international non-profit and in myriad scenes of poverty. All volunteers participate on one or more of our international task teams such as university relations, photography and child watch. To qualify to serve at a centre, volunteers must complete 12 hours of work on one of the teams, and they continue to participate on the team once at the centre. It is important to note that these are intensive experiences. Even before your arrival at the center, you must work 12 hours on international tasks to demonstrate your work ethic. Once at the center, IHF requires its work-study volunteers to work eight hours a day on at-center and international tasks, six day a week. There is time to sightsee and tour the nation, but work is always the first priority. IHF depends on its volunteers to function and to love the children. If you are not prepared to devote this time to work, you should look elsewhere for your service experience. All work-study volunteers will be on probation for their first week at the center. During this time you will be evaluated by the children. If you are deemed abusive or not safe or the children are fearful for any reason, you will be asked to leave. This does not happen often but sadly has had to be implemented to protect the children. Upon the completion of your term of service at the center, you will receive an IHF Certificate of Graduation from our CEO, Carol Sasaki. The certificate will detail your work and experiences while at the center and grade your performance. IHF is committed to offering a flexible, affordable service experience. Upon acceptance as a work-study volunteer, you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of USD $100 which will be credited toward your weekly fee upon arrival. Once at the center, work-study volunteers pay only USD $100 a week to cover the costs for their training and room and board, both very simple. If you commit to serve for six months or longer, you must only pay USD $1200. We seek to provide a way for children to get an education that they desperately desire and are not able to receive. By educating and teaching these children that they are significant and competent, we also teach them that everyone has a voice that matters. IHF promotes self-sufficiency in the communities we work in, primarily focusing on the education, nutrition, and care of children. IHF encourages understanding and caring between people of all nations and religions in order to better prepare the leaders of future generations. We believe that by promoting communication and understanding between students from the poorest of the poor and students in America, we will all be better educated by this exchange. We desire for every student in the United States to have communication with students abroad who are different both culturally and socioeconomically, in order for all students to be educated about the world they live in. I am posting volunterring all over to see who needs help. I am U.S. born and spent many many years in the U.S. Army. I am in Shanghai doing nothing. I myself am trying to learn chinese so that takes up a bit of my time but not enough, besides I am seeing if I can volunteer in other parts of China like Tibet or other counties like Tialand. I will see what happens here.
oh, just to let you know.. Nothing wrong with the chinese teachers teaching english, however because they do not hear or speak American english ' besides U.K. english ' they speak it incorrrectly or use incorrect terms that are either outdated or do not have proper use. I have seen it and hear it. example, when someone says 'Thank you'.. you say. 'You're Welcome'! Not ' No thank you! or You not welcome!' They are simple and common gestures. I Hope that hleps someone. Other then that, they say just hanging out with someone who speaks english helps. I wish that were true for me learning Chinese. I go to the movies, english or chinese as it dose not matter. I like to hang out in the mall and window shop. In short, I like to have fun. Work can be fun only if i enjoy it. Oh, what is a Pal? It means buddy or friend for those who did not know that. |
